UV-C Sterilization Robotics Research Project

This research paper was a semester-long project developed by my engineering computing team and I in my first year of college. Assigned to research a specific engineering-based topic for my writing class, my team and I decided to look into the depths of UV-based cleaning robots. We were truly inspired by the impacts these robots had in the battle against COVID-19 and other airborne pathogens throughout recent times. Our team underwent a strenuous process of research by first, seeking information on the history and foundations on UV technology used to eliminate disease. We then went on to understand how the evolution of robotics were used to accentuate performance in healthcare. Lastly, we explored how robotics were able to combine with UV to mechanize the functions of radiation-based sterilization techniques. Eventually, our team organized all this information and prepared into a professional-grade research paper. We also organized our research into a presentation which was then exhibited at the annual first year engineering conference at Pitt.
